YF Camp 2008

themed,
"Out Of The Salt Shaker And Into The Frying Pan"
couldn't get many pictures taken and most of them are stuck in my phone
Day 1 of getting Salty
Overnight Amazing Race begins...
Kicked off at Jalan Bangkung, Bangsar @ 9.00am with our first clue. Butterfly Park!!
It was a roadblock so I decided to do it =)
Task : Take a picture of the male and female Raja Brooke Butterfly
Unfortunately I took it with my lousy camera phone so I couldn't upload it. But for the betterment of everyone's knowledge, this is how it looks..

Then the real work out started when we had to run to Dataran Merdeka (some took cabs)

the actual place I ran my butt off

muahaha Team Marino (a type of salt) reached first!

Clue : Find a restaurant with 237 seats located at Jalan (something, can't remember. sorry, too hyped)

It turned out to be Mc Donald's =.="

Next up we got a Detour!!

To shorten things, Marino chose to make key chains at Central Market before heading to Sogo by LRT where we had to buy an entire list of groceries before getting our clue at the indoor waterfall.

After that, we ran all the way to the famous Yut Kee restaurant @ downtown KL where we had to literally stuff ourselves with pre-ordered food.

As if it doesn't get worse, we still had alot more running to do. So stitch in the abdomen the whole way it is !

Headed to KLCC Park where we had to take pictures @ strategic places for our next clue. This was easy..

We completed it of course then took an LRT and cab to Batu Caves where I totally died at about the 100th step or so which only made the view at the top totally nauseating.

Now that I see it again however. So awesome, just so awesome.

The annoying part started when the first 6 teams had to gather to take a chartered bus to our next secret destination. It felt like the real Amazing Race where everyone met up at the airport. I know how it feels now.

The bus took us to a place in Pahang called Deerland where the race continued.

Next task : Matching animals with their respective countries by placing them on a world map (no pictures).

The final task was to use a blow pipe to hit a target board. This part was cool since it was one of those orang asli kinda pipes that according to them, can actually kill a person with a single blow. =) I totally failed when it came to this..sadly. The board was so big yet I hit the pole holding it. Don't see how I didn't get extra points for that actually..

So Amazing Race day 1 ended and we stayed at Deerland itself.
No shower. A cubicle with a hole in the ground as a toilet ( for girls only, guys hit the bushes)

And the sleeping condition..err..

girls got tents, thankfully

guys slept with tarp over and under them..some of them woke up with mosquito and sand fly bites but they manned it out

Day 2 of getting Salty

2nd leg of Amazing Race continues...

First destination was a nearby Animal Park where each member had to deal with a different animal.

1. Feed the deers inside their compound
2. Pick a pin out of a python coil without poking it
3. Feed an ostrich by hand
4. My task : Kiss a sun bear by feeding it wafer with your mouth

I kissed a real teddy bear :)

The park was one of the major highlights which im so bummed for not having pictures of. I'll try find some on Facebook later.

Other stuff that happened there were..
- Monkey running on top of everyone's head
- Picture taking with a python as a necklace

Next up was a 3 HOUR leech infested jungle trek with waist high rivers that left me with battle scars such as these..

1/5 leech bites

serangga bites which were so painful my body immediately curled up instinctively

The jungle trek lead us to an Elephant Santuary where a show was taking place. They're really rough and covered with pokey hair if you're wondering.

Finally a bus took everyone to our actual camp site where we did our final few tasks which included sorting out famous wars according to chronology >.< , flying fox and shooting basketball hoops.

It finally ended after 2 gruelling days.

All pictures and captions from here on.

seeing a bed and a shower was the best thing ever

room view

the futsal and basketball court

during drama practice the bushes in this picture started moving. in the end it was just two monitor lizards chasing each other.hehe.

best picture to describe most of the YF guys

team Marino leader, Jason Liew & KSA

camp commander, Ben Ng

staying up every night with the HELP students as they study a pile of foreign stuff for their upcoming January exams

oh crap..

worship everyday of course

Choi Wan and roomie/groupie Sheng @ the dining hall which served the best camp food i've ever had. And I mean out of all the camps that i've been to.

playing games during whatever free time we had or even as sleep replacements. not advisable when there's morning devotion to prepare for. ugh...

rockyfall

Well many other stuff happened like speakers, learning sessions, more sports competitions, kayaking etc.

This is probably my longest post ever so i'll end it with nice camp views.

only me and Sarah barah took the time to enjoy the last breezy moments with snapshots.

Among the things I learned:
1. To see the bigger picture and not everything is about winning
2. Seeing things from another person's point of view. It's the only way to really handle a situation.
3. Staying salty for Christ will be my main priority as long as I remain on this Earth
4. Being thankful for all that God has given and provided in my life
5. The act of patience is more than just a virtue. It is only sincere and truthful when it is placed hand-in-hand with love and compassion upon action.

Till YF Camp 2009! I shall stay Salty...
